Permanently deleting a server

How to schedule the deletion, the 24-hour grace period, how to cancel it and what happens to billing.

The “Terminate” button on the server card, on the “My Servers” page of the app.blackbox.md panel (app.blackbox.md/my-servers, the “My Servers” menu), schedules the permanent deletion of the server. The deletion runs after a 24-hour grace period, during which you can cancel it.

Available to: the server owner, meaning the blackbox.md account the server was ordered from. On company servers you have been given access to (for example, those marked “Managed”), the button does not appear; for those servers, write to us.

The blackbox.md website is available in Romanian and Russian; this article quotes the Romanian labels with their English meaning.

Irreversible Once the deletion runs, the server, its disks and all the data on it are permanently deleted and cannot be recovered. Make any copies you need before you schedule the deletion.

Before you delete

Copy your data. Save the site files, databases, mailboxes, SSL certificates and configurations to your computer or to another server. BLACKBOX does not make automatic copies of your server. See Transferring files to the server (scp, rsync, SFTP) and Backup strategy for your server.
Move your domains. Point your domains to the new server, or delete the DNS records that point to this server's IP address (usually A records). After the deletion, the IP address may be assigned to another server. See How to point your domain to the server and Managing DNS records from the panel.
Decide whether you want money back. Deleting a server from the panel refunds nothing. If you are hoping for a refund, look at canceling the order first (see the section “Deletion does not refund money” below).

How to schedule the deletion

Open the panel and go to “My Servers”. From blackbox.md you can go straight to the server card: “Contul meu” (My account) → “Comenzi” (Orders) → “Gestionează în app.blackbox.md” (Manage in app.blackbox.md).
On the server card, click the red “Terminate” button (its tooltip: “Request permanent deletion of this server (with a grace period)”).
The “Terminate server” dialog opens, with the line “Server: bbx-bbx-2026-000023” and the warning “This permanently deletes the VM after a grace period. It cannot be undone once it runs. You can cancel any time before then from this same dialog.”
In the “Type bbx-bbx-2026-000023 to confirm” field, type the name shown, exactly as it appears (it is also the gray text in the field). This is the server's original name, in lowercase letters; if the server has no name, its IP address appears instead, and you type that. The private name you set with the pencil is not accepted. If you have renamed the server, the original name appears on the card in the “Original name” row (Renaming a server (private name)).
The “Schedule termination” button becomes active only when the text matches exactly. Click it; while the request is being sent, the button reads “Scheduling…”. The “Cancel” button closes the dialog without changing anything.
The dialog shows “A termination is already scheduled. It will run at … unless you cancel it below.”, with the date and time in your device's time zone, and the “Close” and “Cancel termination” buttons.
You receive the email “Server termination scheduled — bbx-bbx-2026-000023” at your account's email address.

The 24-hour grace period

The execution time is the moment of your request plus 24 hours. It is fixed when you schedule the deletion.
The deletion runs at the first automatic check after that time. The check runs once an hour, so the server is deleted between 24 and about 25 hours after your request.
Until then, the server works normally: your sites, SSH and the panel buttons stay available, and billing does not change.
The card does not show that a deletion is scheduled. To check, click “Terminate” again: the dialog shows the scheduled date.
If a deletion attempt fails, the dialog shows “The last execution attempt failed and will be retried automatically.” The deletion is retried at the next hourly check, and you can still cancel it until it runs. If the message stays for several hours, write to us.
You cannot speed up the deletion. If the server must be deleted immediately, cancel the order instead (see below).

How to cancel the deletion

In “My Servers”, click “Terminate” on the server card.
The dialog shows the message about the scheduled deletion. Click “Cancel termination” (the button shows “Cancelling…”). No further confirmation is asked for.
The dialog goes back to the confirmation field: no deletion is scheduled anymore. Close it with “Cancel” or ×.

No email is sent when you cancel. You can schedule the deletion again at any time; the 24 hours are counted from the new request.

Deletion does not refund money

Important “Terminate” does not refund money for the period already paid, or for the remaining days of a month that has already started (Terms and Conditions, clause 7.4). If you want to get part of your money back, cancel the order instead of deleting the server, within the cancellation rules.

When you cancel, the “Anulați comanda?” (Cancel the order?) dialog shows, before you confirm, whether any amount will be refunded to your balance and how much. You can also cancel the order during the grace period of a scheduled deletion. Full rules: Order cancellation and refunds.

The server's original name (or its IP address) appears after the dash. The date in the first email is in a technical UTC format, for example 2026-10-10T09:30:12.345678+00:00. For Moldova time, add 2 hours in winter and 3 hours in summer.

The subject of these emails is in English. If your account language is Romanian, the email text is in English too; for accounts in Russian, the text is in Russian. See Language of the website, the panel and emails.

Error messages

If the deletion was already scheduled in the meantime (for example, from another tab), after you click “Schedule termination” the dialog goes straight to the message “A termination is already scheduled. It will run at …”. A second deletion is not created.

Frequently asked questions

Can I stop the server instead of deleting it, so I no longer pay? No. A server stopped with “Stop” stays in your account and is still billed. Billing stops only after the server is deleted or the order is canceled.

I received the “Server termination scheduled” email, but I did not request the deletion. Immediately open “My Servers” → “Terminate” and click “Cancel termination”. Then change your account password and write to us. See Security recommendations for your account.

Can I keep the IP address after the deletion? No. The address is released and may be assigned to another server. Move the domains and services that use it before the deletion.

Can I ask the AI assistant to delete the server? The AI assistant cannot schedule a deletion with a grace period. It can cancel the order, and then the server is deleted immediately. See Orders, payments, cancellations and upgrades via AI.

I want to close my account. What do I do with my servers? Delete or cancel all your servers before you request the deletion of your account; while a server deletion is scheduled, the account cannot be deleted. The full order of steps: Closing your BLACKBOX services: the steps in the right order.
