Closing your BLACKBOX services: the steps in the right order

How to save your data and documents, move your domains and DNS, stop billing, get your balance back, and only then delete your account.

You can stop using BLACKBOX services at any time. You take the steps on blackbox.md, in “Contul meu” (My account) (blackbox.md/account), and in the app.blackbox.md panel, on the “My Servers” (app.blackbox.md/my-servers) and “DNS” (app.blackbox.md/dns) pages. The order matters: a deleted server can no longer be copied, and you can no longer sign in to a deleted account.

Available to: the holder of the blackbox.md account and of the servers ordered from it. You cannot delete company servers that you have only been given access to (for example, those marked “Managed”); contact us about them.

The blackbox.md website is available in Romanian and Russian; this article quotes the Romanian labels with their English meaning.

Not paying is not the same as canceling

The Terms and Conditions (chapter 10, “Încetarea contractului” (Termination of the contract)) say that you can stop using the services “în orice moment, prin neînnoirea perioadei de facturare sau prin solicitare expresă către echipa BLACKBOX” (at any time, by not renewing the billing period or by an express request to the BLACKBOX team). In practice:

as long as a server exists, it is billed monthly, even if you have stopped it with “Stop”;
an unpaid invoice does not delete the server and does not stop billing; non-payment can lead to suspension and then termination of the service, with prior notice by email (Monthly renewal and paying on time);
monthly billing stops only when the server is deleted; an account with no servers no longer receives monthly invoices;
you cannot delete your account while you have active servers, unfinished orders, unpaid invoices or money in your balance.

The steps at a glance

Step 1. Save the data from your servers

Copy everything you need to your computer or to the new server: website files, database dumps, configuration files, SSL certificates and mailboxes, if you host them on the server. BLACKBOX does not make automatic backups of your server, and the “Backups” button on the server card is not active. Irreversible Once a server is deleted, its disks and all the data on them cannot be recovered. The IP address is not kept and may be assigned to another server.

Note If you process other people's personal data on the server (for example, data about your website's customers), the Data Processing Agreement applies: when the service ends, the data is deleted or returned, as you choose. If you want BLACKBOX to return it to you, write to support@blackbox.md before you delete the servers. See Data Processing Agreement (DPA) for companies.

Step 2. Move your domains and DNS

If your domains point to a BLACKBOX server, move them before you delete it, so that your website and email keep working without interruption.

Lower the TTL of the domain's A, AAAA and MX records, for example to 300 seconds (at GoDaddy the minimum is 600). Then wait at least as long as the old TTL.
Set up the new server and check that the website works on it.
Change the records so that they point to the IP address of the new server. If the domain is connected on the panel's “DNS” page, you can change them there: Managing DNS records from the panel.
Delete the BLACKBOX server only after traffic is reaching the new server.

Domains registered through BLACKBOX

The domain remains yours (Terms and Conditions, chapter 4). To move it to another registrar, ask support for the authorization code (EPP code / auth-code); BLACKBOX provides it within the time limits set by the registry. Make the request before you delete your account. Details: Registering and transferring domains.

Cloudflare and GoDaddy connections in the panel

When you no longer need to change records from the panel, disconnect the provider:

In the panel, open “DNS” (sidebar → “Infrastructure” → “DNS”).
On the connection's row, click “Disconnect” and confirm in the “Disconnect …? You can reconnect it later.” dialog.
Also delete the token at Cloudflare (“My Profile” → “API Tokens”) or the key at GoDaddy (“API Keys”). Disconnecting in the panel does not invalidate them at the provider.

Step 3. Delete your servers: only then does billing stop

For each server, choose one of these options:

With “Anulează comanda”, the dialog shows the amount to be refunded and the warning “Serverul asociat (SERVER_IP) va fi șters definitiv, împreună cu toate datele de pe el.” (The associated server (SERVER_IP) will be permanently deleted, together with all the data on it.) With “Terminate”, type the name shown in the “Terminate server” dialog (the server's original name; the IP address only if the server has no name) and click “Schedule termination”. The server is deleted between 24 and about 25 hours after the request. Steps: Permanently deleting a server.

The server's monthly billing stops at the moment it is deleted, and the order's add-on services stop together with the server. If you do not see either of these buttons for a server, ask support to close it.

Important “Anulează comanda” deletes the server immediately, with no grace period: use it only after steps 1 and 2. While a deletion from the panel is waiting to be carried out, your account deletion request is blocked with the message “Există o ștergere de server în curs.” (A server deletion is in progress.)

Step 4. Settle up

Invoices. In “Facturi” (Invoices), pay the invoices with the status “Trimisă” (Sent) or “Restantă” (Overdue). You cannot pay them by card on the website (“Plata online — în curând” (Online payment — coming soon) appears next to them): use automatic payment from your balance, a bank transfer or support (Monthly renewal and paying on time). Invoices issued before the server was deleted stay in the list; if you have questions about any of them, write to us before you pay it.
Orders. Orders with the status “Nou” (New) or “În lucru” (In progress) block account deletion. Cancel “Nou” orders with “Anulează comanda” (Cancel the order); nothing is refunded, because they were never paid. An “În lucru” order changes to “Anulat” (Canceled) when its server is deleted in step 3; if it stays “În lucru”, write to us.
Balance. The refunds from step 3 go to your balance, and you can delete your account only when your balance is 0. Use the amount to pay any remaining invoices, or write to support@blackbox.md and ask for a refund. Each request is reviewed individually; a card refund goes back to the same card, usually within 5–10 business days of approval, depending on the bank that issued the card. Step 5. Keep your invoices as PDF files

You cannot download invoices as PDF files from the “Facturi” (Invoices) page.

The PDF invoice for each paid order (factura-BBX-….pdf) is attached to the “Plată confirmată — BBX-…” (Payment confirmed — BBX-…) email. Keep these emails.
For the other invoices (BT-…, INV-…) or for a lost PDF, write to support@blackbox.md with the invoice numbers before you delete your account: after deletion you can no longer sign in.

BLACKBOX keeps invoices for 5 years, as accounting law requires, even after your account is deleted. Details: The “Facturi” (Invoices) page: statuses, numbers and PDF.

Step 6. Revoke your API tokens

In “Contul meu” (My account) → “Token-uri API” (API tokens), click “Revocă” (Revoke) for each active token and confirm in the “Revocați token-ul?” (Revoke the token?) dialog. Do this before you request account deletion: until the deletion is carried out, the tokens keep working, and a new order placed by an AI assistant would postpone the deletion. The SSH keys saved in “Chei SSH” (SSH keys), your DNS connections and your links to Google or GitLab are deleted automatically together with the account.

Step 7. Download a copy of your data (optional)

In “Contul meu” (My account) → “Profil” (Profile), on the “Datele mele” (My data) card, click “Descarcă datele mele” (Download my data). The JSON file contains, among other things, your orders, your invoices with their line items, payments, balance transactions and support tickets. Do this after steps 3 and 4, so that the file includes the cancellations and refunds. See Downloading your data (“Datele mele”).

Step 8. Delete your account

Open “Contul meu” (My account) → “Profil” (Profile) and scroll down to the “Ștergerea contului” (Account deletion) card.
If anything is still outstanding, the card shows “Pentru a șterge contul, mai întâi trebuie finalizate următoarele:” (To delete your account, you first need to complete the following:) and a list of reasons. Resolve them and reload the page.
Type your account email in “Introduceți emailul dvs. pentru confirmare” (Enter your email to confirm) and your password in “Parola curentă” (Current password) (accounts without a password do not have this field), then click “Șterge contul meu” (Delete my account).
The deletion is carried out after 7 days; the card shows the date: “Ștergerea contului este programată pentru …” (Account deletion is scheduled for …). Until then, you can cancel it with “Anulează ștergerea” (Cancel deletion).

You can sign up again later with the same email, but you get a new, empty account. Details: Deleting your account.

Frequently asked questions

Can I keep my account and delete only the servers? Yes. An account with no servers no longer receives monthly invoices, and you can order again from the same account later.

Can I ask the team to close my services for me? Yes, the Terms allow termination by express request. Write to support@blackbox.md from your account's email address and list the servers (the order number BBX-… or the IP address). Save your data first.

How long does the whole process take? Deletion from the panel: 24–25 hours; order cancellation: immediate. Account deletion: 7 days from the request. Card refund: usually 5–10 business days after approval.

The card says “Aveți facturi neplătite.” (You have unpaid invoices.), but I see nothing to pay in “Facturi” (Invoices). Write to support@blackbox.md: the team will check which invoice is blocking the deletion and tell you what to do.

The message “Aveți o plată în curs de procesare. Așteptați finalizarea acesteia.” (You have a payment being processed. Wait for it to complete.) does not go away. If you started a card payment and closed the Paynet page, the message may stay. Write to us and give the order number.
